What is College Connect?
This ministry connects College Students or College age students to Urban Empowerment Ministries. This ministry is a bridge for College Students to connect, establish a foundational relationship, and to get plugged in to UE. It is about meeting college students where they are and allowing for a place to specifically cultivate their God given gifts, talents, and abilities to use to serve others for the glory of God and to contribute to vision of the Body at Urban Empowerment and Vision of International ministry that is being birthed here in Columbia, MO. College students will be able to be under the covering of Urban Empowerment Ministries, pastored by Bishop Lester Woods and Co-Pastor Christine Woods.

How will College Connect Benefit me?
Urban Empowerment wants to make it easier for college students to stay connected with God because we understand how busy college students can be. We have plans for on campus 1-hour services, spirit checks with Bishop and 1st lady Woods, and on campus ministers for prayer during finals time. Not only that, serving for the Kingdom is building your treasures up in heaven and you’ll find that the Glory of God, His peace, and His joy will be more prevalent in your life once you make a step toward living for him.
“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”- Matthew 6:19-20.
Why is it important for me to serve?
As Christians we follow the greatest servant of all- Jesus Christ. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many”- Mark 10:45. It is our duty to serve and uphold the Kingdom of God. Not only will you be storing your treasures up in heaven, you’ll find serving in ministry is the most fulfilling duty you’ll have here on earth. “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen”- 1 Peter 4:10-11. Peter makes it clear we are to use our God given gifts and talents to serve the Lord. But College Connect is not just about serving; it is about helping you grow spiritually and establishing a better relationship with God.
Do I have to be a member of UE to be apart of college connect?
Part of connecting to ministry at Urban Empowerment is taking new members classes. In order to get familiar with UE’s values, beliefs, and opportunities it is important to go through the classes. It will also help you figure out if Urban Empowerment is the church for you. You do not however, have to wait until you finish new member’s classes to start in the ministry of your choice.
I do not go to UE, can I still be apart of College Connect?
The point of college connect is to connect students who choose to go to Urban Empowerment with a ministry. Therefore, it would be difficult to connect students with a ministry if UE is not the church of their choice. If you would like to find out if UE is the church for you, we would love to connect with you. For any questions E-mail: email@example.com
What types of things can I do to in ministry?
At Urban Empowerment there are already several ministries available for you to work in. If you don’t seem to fit in one of the ministries already established, Bishop would be happy to discuss any plans you have to further uphold the Kingdom. For instance, if you like fashion design there could be an opportunity for you to design UE apparel. Anything you can do that is relevant to spreading the message of Jesus Christ, there is room at UE for you to do.
I’m already apart of a Christian organization on campus
College Connect is by no means trying to take away from Christian organizations you may be apart of on campus. What makes college connect different is it is connected to a local church, and there are benefits of having a covering, even while you are in Columbia temporarily. Furthermore, College Connect can be a resource to Christian organizations on campus, and we could always work together. Whether you’re organization needs ministers to host a bible study or a place to hold a concert, Urban Empowerment is more than willing to help.
Will this take up a lot of my time?
You choose however much time you put into ministry. Most ministries meet twice a month with the exception of the music ministry. We assure you that time spent serving God is time very well spent, and it is the single most important duty you have here on earth. He has done so much for you, why not do something for God. “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
